massive update

not been able to update for a while because i lost my password. silly me. the project is now over and i think overall it could have been better organised. due to the lack of funding ideas had to be repeatedly changed tweaked and messed around. originally we were told to produce a design for screen printing where we could use 2 or 3 colours, but due to budget issues and lack of time towards the end we had to change our ideas so that they only contained one colour so i changed my design so that the only colour was red. once i had changed 'final' my idea for about the 5th time dave told us to cut stamps to use for printing our designs onto bags. unfortunately this ended in disaster. i cut my thumb open with the scalpel and sliced my vain open...which wasn't very fun or nice so i had to have a massive bandage on for 2 weeks and this resulted in me not being allowed to use scalpels again. in the end dave just printed our designs onto card and used them as leaflet type things.

this image was my final final design where we could only use one colour. i decided to make the message 'give them hope' because the charity provided schools for orphans, and doing so gives them hope for the future and giving them an education so that they can lift themselves from poverty.

after this disaster we were told to create bags using coloured tissue scraps glued onto card to make goody bags for the people who attended the event. this took two weeks and felt like slave labor, but it was worth it in the end.

on the day of the event itself we were told to sell raffle tickets to win amazing prizes like driving lessons...and a years worth of butter. lol.
however we were all pessimistic because we thought it would be very difficult to sell loads of tickets to students who for one didn't know that they were being sold on that day so didnt bring any money into college and because it was such short notice we were allowed to go to places like sainsburies to sell them because we would have had to talk to the stores events manager and because it was such short notice we couldn't get in touch with her.

regardless of this myself and dan were able to sell about £100 of tickets in just a few hours by badgering people, stalking the staff and kitchen staff and overall being very annoying to get sales.

overall it could have been better organised and developed and due to the lack of funding things were made difficult and it stressed dave out a lot because he couldn't do anything to help the funding issues for materials etc. i was unable to attend the event itself because my nan was ill in hospital ):
but i heard that alot of people attended and in the end everything worked out okay and raised money for the charity.

blehhhh

last week i made this really good design in photoshop where the picture was split in half black background in one and white in the other, text along the top saying 'our parents look after us, but who will look after them?' and then at the bottom on one side a silhouette of a man, woman and child and on the other just a child alone. the text was half black and half white after lewis helped me cause i couldn't figure it out. it all looked really good, but then i had to go earlier than normal cause it was my sisters birthday and my computer froze and i was unable to save it. dave said he was goner save it but he didn't ): so ive had to spend another session repeating myself in illustrator. and once again i have no idea how to split the text color, so in this image ive just made it pink. it'll do for now.

everyone is evilllll

i am not very happy with my group. everyone keeps blocking and deleting me. i dont think thats very nice ):

coffeeeeeeeeee

last week we all sat down and had a nice coffee with dave and had a good old chat about possible ideas that we could use to promote the event and different ways that we could get the message across. we discussed the importance of subtlety and how the poster should be quite minimalistic and unique. some ideas were put across about using the bird for a logo for the design but then this was ditched because it went away from the point of the event because it seemed as though uganda itself was being promoted rather than the humanist trust. we needed an idea that was eye catching which makes people want to look deeper into the image to see the information. we had ideas about playing on peoples emotions with messages such as 'our parents look after us, but who is going to look after them?'. other ideas included perhaps using 2 posters in a series which join together to convey the message. These ideas are still in development and i will inform of any updates.

food for thought.

Today we started to look at and research different styles of poster art in order to promote a potential poster idea for the charity.

ork-chicago.jpg

I came across this image and it has inspired me to create something similar perhaps, but instead if it being Chicago it could be shaped like Uganda, still separated into different areas of the country but rather than the names it could include different things that the children have to suffer every day probably in a bold black font. And also rather than the country just being onetoo i could refer it to some other pictures that i have researched and also relate it to African art and have it in bold block colours for each area. Along the bottom in place of where the area is it could have some sort of slogan or help message to further describe the image and purpose of the poster. I also like this idea too because Dave has told us that we have a budget for this project £££££££££ and that we could potentially use this money to create some t-shirts which i think is a great idea and these could be sold either at the event or maybe even at Sainsburys across the road from college because they have said we can have some of their floor space at the bottom where people go in and out to advertise and perhaps tell items to promote the event. But anyway, I think if my idea gets turned into one of the t-shirts I may actually buy one. cause I'm cool like that.

first blog...again

The uganda humanist schools trust is a charity which helps to provide schools and laptops and other implements which will help to provide schools and an education for orphans in uganda. This charity is great because it helps a lot of children who would otherwise not be able to get an education which will eventually hopefully be able to lift them from poverty so that they can provide better lives for themselves and also enable them to be self confident and ”to appreciate the need for shared human values.”

This charity was founded by Deo Ssekitooleko and two other people when they met in university and decided that they needed to help children to give them a better future.
They get other schools and a variety of other people to help raise money to provide for the orphaned children in Uganda, which is why myself and other people from my college are trying to help raise money by putting on an event which will take place in October to help the charity. At this event there will he dancing, art exhibitions and other interesting things based around the theme of African art. People on my course will be responsible for organizing the event and producing a variety of posters, websites and the tickets which will be sold to allow entrance to the event and all proceeds of the event will go to the charity.

I will keep this blog up to date on the development on the project and inform of any updates and progress on how the planning and production on the event is taking place.
